How did we get started?
"The Austin Parrot Society started when two of its members, Jamie Powell and Emily Strong, were sitting around complaining about how there seemed to be a lot of parrot lovers in Austin and a lot of parrot-related resources in Austin, but NOT a centralized community for said parrot enthusiasts to get to know each other or take advantage of those resources. For their 2009 New Year's Resolution, they decided to quit complaining and do something about it. So in January 2009, the Austin Parrot Society was born, and on February 22nd, its first meeting convened. And we've been meeting on a monthly basis ever since."
